Do I need followers or a professional portfolio to apply?

No. There is no minimum following and no portfolio requirement. The application asks for portfolio or social links only if you have them, and for up to five recent photographs, which are optional. A clear portrait and a full-length photo from a phone are genuinely useful; a professional shoot is not expected. Building a portfolio is part of what the agency does with you afterwards, not something you need before you write.
